BIOGRAPHY

Carl “Greasegun” Lagle, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army, Infantry, Retired

Past Governor, 101st ABN Chapter
National Pathfinder Association (NPA)

 

LTC Carl W. Lagle was the first Unit Representative for the 101st ABN Division “First In, Last Out” Chapter and a founding member on the National Pathfinder Association’s first Board of Governors. He was later elected Vice President to replace a Pathfinder Brother who could not complete his term. Before his retirement in 1992, he was the Inspector General for the Department of Defense Language Institute’s Foreign Language Center in Monterey, CA. His previous assignment had been Secretary of General Staff for NATO HQ, LANDSOUTHEAST in Turkey.

Other assignments include the U.S. Army’s Infantry, Airborne, and Ranger Advisor to Saudi Arabian Land Forces, and the Royal Family’s Combat Arms Foreign Military Sales Advisor in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Deputy Director of TRADOC PRE CMD Course, Ft. Jackson, SC; G-3 OPS and G-1 for 2nd Armor Division (FWD) Garlstadt, Germany, and Battalion S-3, 3/41st Infantry, 2nd Armored Division (FWD); Associate Professor of Military Science at the University of California, Davis, CA; Commander, B Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, Fort Ord, CA; Assistant Adjutant General, HQ, Sixth Army, Presidio of San Francisco, CA; Commander, B Company, 2nd Battalion 501st Infantry, 101st ABN Division, Viet Nam; Section Leader, Section D, 101st ABN Division, “First In Last Out” Pathfinder Platoon, Viet Nam; and Anti-Tank Platoon Leader, HHC, 1st Battalion, 505 Infantry, 82nd ABN Division, Fort Bragg, NC.

LTC Lagle has a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Norwich University, Vermont, a Master of Arts degree in Family Therapy from Chapman University, California, and is a PhD Candidate in Psychology at the University of Hawaii. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Arizona. His military schooling includes the Command and General Staff College, Department of Defense Security Assistance School, and Department of Defense Arabic Language School. He has served on the Joint Department of Defense Board for the Defense of North America and on the Joint Department of Defense Board to Secure Military Objectives in the Middle East. On his military uniform, he proudly wore the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the U.S Marine Parachute and U.S. Army Parachute Badges, and the U.S. Army’s Ranger Tab. Most important was the U.S. Army Pathfinder Badge. As Saudi Arabia’s SPC OPNS Training Advisor, he was the first non-Saudi airborne trooper to be awarded Saudi Arabia’s Free-fall Parachute Badge. Greasegun and fellow Pathfinder brothers were awarded Vietnamese Jump Wings at the Viet Nam Airborne School in 1971.

LTC Lagle was born in Long Beach, CA on 10 January, 1946. He met his wife of 38 years, Cindy Tomlinson Lagle, in Viet Nam. They have three children, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren
